Autodidacte du travail de la terre, Nathalie Charrié explore les mondes savants comme autrefois un enfant voyageait dans les pages illustrées d’une encyclopédie. Ces illustrations, comme les enluminures des ma- nuscrits médiévaux offrent aux non létrré·es, à l’enfance, le sentiment d’inclusion à l’univers et au savoir. Comme chez Bouvard et Peruchet, l’enthousiasme de Nathalie Charrié prend le pas sur les sciences dans les- quelles elle pioche, rend tangible l’improbable. La sociologie comportementale du vacancier s’illustre ici par la bouées Flamand rose en plastique. Celle-ci par la magie de la sculpture en trompe l’oeil, fait basculer la boués dans le monde animal et non l’inverse. L’humour rend plausible l’idée que les tous les flamands roses sont gonflables; ou est-ce nous qui sommes incongrus?

Nathalie Charrié joue avec les savoirs encyclopédiques et rend leurs illustrations vivantes grâce à l’alchimie des matériaux - terre, verre, cuivre, fer, bois - et le creuset de son four à céramique. L’entomologie s’hybride comme les fables de La Fontaine à nos comportement humains: «armée d’insectes, Sysiphe-scarabée, orga- nismes extrémophiles, oiseaux-végétaux, etc.». Dans l’ère anthropocène, notre écosystème est en danger. Les mondes que crée Nathalie Charrié sont comme autant de contes de fées unifiant le végétal, l’animal

à notre humanité. Des mondes dans lesquels ses talents de copiste jouent avec malice et optimisme un rôle pacificateur.

Self-taught in the field of agriculture, Nathalie Charrié explores scholarly realms as a child once traveled through the illustrated pages of an encyclopedia. These illustrations, like the illuminations of medieval manuscripts, offer non-literates and children a sense of inclusion in the universe and knowledge. Similar
to Bouvard and Peruchet, Nathalie Charrié’s enthusiasm surpasses the sciences she draws from, making
the improbable tangible. The behavioral sociology of vacationers is illustrated here by the plastic flamingo buoy. Through the magic of trompe l’oeil sculpture, this buoy shifts into the animal world, not the other way around. Humor makes the idea plausible that all flamingos are inflatable; or is it us who are incongruous? Nathalie Charrié plays with encyclopedic knowledge and brings its illustrations to life through the alchemy of materials - clay, glass, copper, iron, wood - and the crucible of her ceramic kiln. Entomology hybridizes, much like La Fontaine’s fables, with our human behaviors: «an army of insects, Sisyphe-scarab, extremo- phile organisms, bird-plants, etc.» In the Anthropocene era, our ecosystem is in danger. The worlds created by Nathalie Charrié are like fairy tales uniting the plant, the animal, and our humanity. In these worlds, her talents as a copyist play a mischievous and optimistic pacifying role.

Als autodidact in het werk op het land verkent Nathalie Charrié de geleerde werelden zoals een kind vroe- ger reisde door de geïllustreerde pagina’s van een encyclopedie. Deze illustraties, net als de illuminaties van middeleeuwse manuscripten, bieden de niet-geletterden en kinderen het gevoel van inclusie in het universum en de kennis. Net als bij Bouvard en Peruchet overstijgt het enthousiasme van Nathalie Charrié de wetens- chappen waaruit ze put, maakt het het onwaarschijnlijke tastbaar. De gedragsociologie van de vakantiegan- ger wordt hier geïllustreerd door de roze flamingo-boei in plastic. Door de magie van de trompe l’oeil-beeld- houwkunst kantelt deze boei naar de dierenwereld, niet andersom. Humor maakt het idee geloofwaardig dat alle flamingo’s opblaasbaar zijn; of zijn wij incongruent?

Nathalie Charrié speelt met encyclopedische kennis en brengt de illustraties tot leven door de alchemie van materialen - aarde, glas, koper, ijzer, hout - en het smeltpunt van haar keramische oven. Entomologie hybri- diseert, net als de fabels van La Fontaine, met onze menselijke gedragingen: «een leger van insecten, Sisyphe- scarabee, extremofiele organismen, vogel-planten, enz.» In het antropoceen is ons ecosysteem in gevaar. De werelden die Nathalie Charrié creëert, zijn als zoveel sprookjes die de plant, het dier en onze menselijkheid verenigen. In deze werelden speelt haar talent als kopiist een ondeugende en optimistische sussende rol.
